count of daily items

Hi,

I have tablename  - DETAILS
FIELDS:  
ID - AUTONUMBER
ITEM - TEXT
DATE - DATE
SELLER - TEXT

what i want to do is display count of different items on daily basis

i want to count of items sold by seller daily...
the output should be

10/01/2005 20
10/02/2005 23
10/03/2005 65
10/04/2005 33
10/05/2005 23
10/06/2005 10
......................... and so one.

what i want to do is if enter the name of the item in a form...
on the next page it should give me the count from the start of the month till current date
